I'd suggest that rather than increasing the watering you increase the humidity. For $20 you can buy a small, cool air humidifier that will do wonders for them.

A 24-hour soak isn't going to be harmful. Your orchid will be fine. I agree, also, with those who suggest punching some holes in the bottom of the pot. A few in the sides as well would help.
