2-3 per shelf isn't too bad at all! I haven't tried them alone but I wouldn't have thought they'd be bright enough. Maybe I'll try them without my fluorescents at some point.

Since mine seems to be a warm-growing miniature, I'll think I'll see how it responds to being treated the same year-round for now.
