Me too this is gorgeous. Save some pollen for your friend to use this year on his plant, in case the reverse doesn't work. I haven't had luck with Cattleya pollen lasting very long.

I would suggest warmer temps and brighter light. Mine grew biggest and flowered the best when grown outside under 60% shade in the hot, humid, wet summers in the southeastern US.
