I have a clear plastic dome on top of the black tray to increase the humidity. I'm going to let them stay like this for a little while and then slowly open it for an hour one day, and a little more each day until they are exposed to less humidity. Hopefully it will help them harden up to normal humidity!

I was reading somewhere about the humidity though: "Initial Humidity ;In our humid growing situation we don't need to do anything about providing the just-unflasked seedlings with extra humidity, but you may need to in your situation. Extra humidity for a few days, gradually decreasing, can help the seedlings adjust to their new environment. Care must be taken to not overdo the humidity, though. Excessive humidity will promote rots and molds, and can very quickly kill the plants. Here, we have a stiff breeze from circulating fans to prevent high-humidity troubles. If you decide to tent the seedling pots to provide a shelter with extra humidity, do not completely close the tent. The seedlings need fresh air and enough ventilation to make sure the humidity doesn't go over 80%. The tent should gradually be opened more over just a very few days to allow the humidity to be 65-70%. As the seedlings toughen, they should be able to handle the normal humidity of your growing area, though generally 60% should be the minimum for extended periods of time."

And here is the final set up. I'm very excited for these little seedlings! I hope they do well.

I found that this link was very helpful.

Default In There New Home

Halee,
I see they are all in their new home now safe and sound. They look so good under the lights. I am very pleased at the way they traveled. It looks like the same way I put them into the boxes for you when I mailed them the other day.

Now we just have to see who's is going to bloom first between the 5 of us.

This is a fun and interesting "project" you gals have going here. I'm very much enjoying following along and wanting to dig my hands into some propagation but I will wait keeping my fingers crossed that I have pods that make it till I can send them off to a professional!

Best of luck, and growing, to you all!!

Lotis , thanks for all the interest in what us 5 are doing. We are having a lot of fun with it. The flasks arrive faster then what we figured it would take. The night before is when my little green house came in and the next morning the flasks all arrived at my home. One of the 8 flasks were a bit shaken up but the rests were in great shape. I went and deflasked all the orchids myself and divided them into groups of 5 for us all. Then had to repackage them because they were turning on me to fast in a plastic bag. So I went out and purchased supplies to put them all in and drilled holes for air circulation in containers. Added spag moss and placed the plants into each container. Hallee and 2 girls from her office got some, Idaniel got some and I got some. So I then shipped them out to everyone. Everyone had time to set up there growing area with lights and get all the supplies they needed. I placed the list on here so they know what each orchid was going to be once they received them. WE didn't get to pick as it was a special I saw on one of the sites. They just send you 8 flasks for $90.00 its was well worth it I think. If you look closely at each of the 2 pictures the others have on here you will see lots of babies now Times that by 3 more people. Yes its a lot of orchid babies.

I have an update from Ellie and how her seedlings are doing. She has them under a 4foot grow light for 12hrs a day.

She sorted out her larger ones and potted them up individually.

Her organization system is a bit lacking in the big tray and it makes me cringe a bit..

Where did she get them nice plastic tags from? All I can find here is the wooden ones.

I got them from a garden/hydroponic store (called The Fifth Season) and gave each of them 20 or so.

Some Sad News,
Idaniel and I both lost a few of our Baby orchids over the long weekend> I lost 6 so far and they were the really tiny ones. Idaniel lost most of her tiny ones. We don't know if it was due to the long trip from Maryland to Utah or not. I hope the others survive for her.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that. I moved around my Dressy into a larger container (the bottom part of a strawberry container was the perfect size!) and when I was re-planting them, there were 2 or 3 that had no roots or were gunky looking so I tossed them. Other than those ones, I haven't lost any of the other ones yet.

The temperature flucuates when the light goes off (I have the light on a 12 hr schedule now). It is 80 degrees F when the light is on, but this morning when the light was off the thermometer read 62 degrees F. Do you think thats too cold for them? The humidity remains constant at 80% humidity inside the growing chamber.

I purchased a new book in preparation for my first orchid flasking adventure. I am so excited to try and sow my own seeds!

Pot. Roys Magic "Camela" are all looking very healthy! ^^
