Default Rooting powder experiment

Hi Orchid People,
Does anybody have any experience with hormone rooting powder? I have a couple of dendrobium canes that have rotted at the base of the plant. I have cut them off, and they have healthy growth at the top but no roots. I am considering dipping them in rooting powder (indole-3-butyric acid) or to add them to my growing collection of canes that I hope will develop keikis?
Any thoughts?

I've never seen rotted off canes make more roots of their own, but if the rot doesn't work its way up, they might make keikis, if they live long enough. Rooting hormone might help. I would treat the entire cane since keikis usually grow nearer the tip.

Thanks ES,
My initial objective is to just to get roots to grow on the cane and get a healthy plant. If keikis develop that would be a bonus.

Did you have any luck with the canes?

Looking into trying something similar with a damaged Catasetum…

No, nothing grew they just rotted away. But don’t be discouraged have a go, I may have done it wrong and you have nothing to lose.

Sorry to hear. Do you think it may have been too moist?

I’m giving it a go but not holding out much hope. Looks like it was severed a few days back. Maybe two inches of a decent pseudobulb… praying the main plant’s 3 pbulbs don’t get damaged by the nub rotting or whatever may happen to it.

Thanks for the reply
