couple variegated ones

These are newish as well. Got them within the last month. Both get very high light, pretty warm direct sun only lightly filtered by a window in the afternoon for almost a full 4 hours. That's pretty much straight vanda light that I only really subject to brassavolas and laelia anceps.

While ultimately my collection is weighted towards the beans, the variegated ones I find truly inspiring.

Aojiku Fugaku
This variety appears to have highly variable striping throughout the growths, but considered as unique with its spread striping, chiri-fu, with varying gradient changes in the striping. I did see an image of this one before I got it and by complete chance was able to get it as I normally lose out on getting the larger more sought after varieties. I enjoy the wide chunkier leaves and the vibrant yellow green root tips.

Asahiden
This one I saw in person at Cal orchid's summer open house, Satomi is in part hosts the US fuukiran judging event for this (I always miss this because of work) and anyway the speed to which my hand reached for it was immeasurably fast. The striping is very finely drawn on the leaf and the contrast is precise. Variegation is also variable throughout the growths. The leaves are thinner than I expected this variety to have, and the root tips have beautiful dark purplish color, also unexpected.

Gorgeous plants! The Aojiku Fugaku was a recent eBay listing, no? Great looking plant.

The Asahiden is really nice, great coloration. I have this plant, much smaller. A shame there are no bean leaf plants with beautiful variegation like this, affordable.

Thanks! the Fugaku is from Satomi as well... not sure if it was on eBay, but was from June listing. Funny thing is she said it was taken then a week later she said actually still available. So who knows, maybe she listed and didn't get much interest then offered back to me, ya know never know with vendors. lol. The thing on her list that I've noticed is she'll list everything then say it's not available because she figures she might get a better price on eBay. but again, don't know for sure. Supposedly the aojiku form is a bit rarer than regular one, but to what I see in neo community I imagine is not the most sought after so idea was just to get a nice full specimen that I'd enjoy and happy it ended up available. Have to say that while still pricey, her prices seem pretty good when considering pricing elsewhere!

Your asahiden grows quickly? shows good variegation with your lights?

I have seen the Aojiku Fugaku in her eBay listings a few time recently. I’m sure I didn’t notice it in her email listings as I skip the larger varieties, quickly. There could be issues with Satomi’s buyers on her mailing list changing their minds after they have ask to purchase a plant. I know I have added to my orders a few times.

In my early days of purchasing from Satomi’s list I was unfamiliar with many plants therefore I would take the time to google search, often missing the plant altogether. I feel like her prices are very reasonable. I’ve purchased some of my biggest clumps for 50.00 and that’s a bargain in my book.

My Asahiden has grown well, faster than some others. It never did have strong variegation, not like your plant. I’ve searched here on the forum and there seem to be several plants with weak variegation. I recently replaced my t5 ho bulb so maybe that will help to increase the colors. I have a Byakko and a Kinroukaku on the same shelf with killer variegation so not sure about my Asahiden. I believe Orchid Web lists the light as medium to high. Love the color of yours!

Just wanted to note that as the sun is shifting just a tad bit lower approaching fall and getting more directly on these two that they started not to burn but looking a bit pale and losing lower leaves a bit more than what I suspect is natural. I pulled both back a bit further from the window and they both plumped out a bit more and have so far retained variegation decently. In fact I think the fugaku looks better, the colors/ variegation in the leaves are mellower but richer.

A few tigers have been placed or stayed in their intense light spots without problems- hanagoromo, kinroukaku, kinkujaku, kinkujaku getting the most light of them all it's kinda crazy.

While by no means fast growing, I find neos much faster growing than many orchids. I seem to see faster responses to conditions changes also, which is great in you can hone in on better culture for them sooner than other genera/ species.
