Picture of my first orchid

This is a picture from November of last year of my Dendrobium. There were 2 labels on it. One label on the plant that was not in bloom said "Den. White." The label beside the plant that was blooming in the same pot said "Den. Elima Imact." Does that mean that there are 2 different orchids in the same pot? I hope I can get them to bloom again. Any tips? Does this appear to be a phal type den to you?

This is one was labeled "Den. Dark Blue." Both of these orchids were given to me as gifts in November, and they both have lots of new growth.

:hello Welcome to the Orchidboard!

I think your dens are just beautiful but unfortunately, I'm not very good with that type of orchid.

I can tell you that it's not uncommon for someone to pull a tag from one plant and then mistakingly stick it back in the wrong pot, hence two tags in the same plant....

:goodluck:

Hi There, Leeanna the first Den is just lovely I like the second one as well but the first one very very pretty. I have several Dens. one is pure white the others or pinkish lavender and white. I have repotted them in S/H medium. I am new to orchid growing about 2 years. Buying them in bloom is fun but my real test is getting them to rebloom :blushing:

Definitely a Denrobium hybrid with one of the parents being Dendrobium phaleanopsis.

They're intermediate to warm growing (55 degrees F to 90 degrees F), like to be very potbound, and are semi-deciduous. Grow in moderate to bright indirect light.

Water once or twice a week during spring/summer. During fall reduce watering. Eliminate water during winter for about one to two months. Fertilize spring through fall.

Potting medium should be fine bark mix. Or you can mount them on cork bark too.

I thought Phal type Dens didn't like a winter rest. I water and fertilize mine year round and get growth and blooms. :scratchhead:

I agree with ya Terri, I water mine when they need, no winter rest for these guys. Also, they love the sunlight in zone 5, once introduced slowly over a couple of weeks.

Pretty blooms fore sure, Enjoy them :D

Yep, not winter rest, tho you can cut back some. I'm in zone 8 but NO sunlight. I keep mine on N. side of G/H where the light is somewhat lower. I've never tried but here I think they would get sunburn??
