dendrobium frosty dawn 'perfection' when to repot?
2 Attachment(s)
I purchased a dendrobium Frosty Dawn 'Perfection' in January. It came to me potted in sphagnum moss, & I'm eager to repot in another media.
Here's my conundrum: The plant has put out new roots, at the same time it has flower buds nearing to open, as well as little nubs on the sides of the canes (which I assume will become flowers), a keiki (not high on my concern list), and at least one cane that hasn't finished it's terminal leaf growth yet. So I don't know WHEN to repot this!! Logic tells me 2 conflicting things: (1)wait til it's finished blooming, which would be LATER. (2)pot when there's new root growth, which would be NOW. I'd love some suggestions - Thanks! |
Well I don't know what to tell you. I have had the same thing happen I'm a procrastinator so you could guess which one I'd do ;) If you could do it and not disturb the roots and just drop it into a new pot that might work.

I repotted a Den Christy Dawn while the plant was in a similar state, and it did fine. The plant continued to work on the blooms. I think you can go either way, but since the root system is vigorously growing I think repotting will not hold the plant back. Just don’t break the new root growth!

Same here, mine always seems to set buds and grow new roots at the same time. So far I reported it twice in that condition with no adverse effect, the blooms keep coming and lasting after the repots. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
