Brassavola nodosa - flower spikes!
1 Attachment(s)
I've been growing this for three years, and it has been a favorite of mine ever since. Tough as heck and extremely adaptable.
Now, it sent out four spikes! http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1507280451 Two spikes begin to emerge from sheaths (one from dried up old sheath! Surprise!), and I can see two more developing inside the sheaths on the other pseudobulbs. Even the stunted bulb at the middle (which was nearly squeeze to death by entangled root, so I had to cut away the root mass to rescue it) is developing some sort of sheath It is getting better and better every year....I am totally in love with this one! |
You'll be far more in love when it blooms!

I am so envious! The scent is wonderful on brassavolas. Mine are thinking about flowering but are taking their time....

Finally!
Buds are beginning to open. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1512282526 http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1512282526 Flower size is about 11 cm...quite large for a nodosa! I am beginning to suspect that my plant is actually B. nodosa var. grandiflora (or B. grandiflora). The leaves have become somewhat more flatter and wider than ordinary nodosas, too. But the label just says nodosa so I will have to call it nodosa....Sometimes I wish there is a law to prohibit sellers to put incorrect labels on their plants. :( |
Wonderful bloom!

Definitely one of my favorite orchids. Mine is usually spiking around now, but nothing yet. When mine has flowers, I bring it into our bedroom at night so we can enjoy the fragrance while falling asleep. One of the best fragrances in the orchid world!

I have 1 Brassavola nodosa. Last year it full of flower spikes on it. But suddenly get scale( maybe I put my Brassavola next to my desert rose). After I spray some insert soap to kill the bugs.( for a month). The plant looked death. But I still did not throw away it. This summer. I put it outside, it regrowed and now back to a big plant just like last year. No different.
