Who owns a Laelia tenebrosa?
Does it gets too big?
And does it grows well in other catts conditions? Thank you!:) |
Very a much a typical large Catt in terms of culture. Mid-range in size among species like C. labiata, C. mossiae and C. (L.) purpurata, though more clustered narrow upright growth than some, a sign it is adapted to a bit brighter light.

I have the possibility to buy a tenebrosa var. rubra "Caliman" but I lack space. If its tendency is to grow up then it might not be an issue.
|
It at least does not tend to sprawl the way some Catts do. Pseudobulbs and leaves often held quite vertically especially in bright light. I'm not sure if your plant would be typical of the species. I can't find any indication that var. rubra was ever officially described, but in Brazil they tend to recognize many varieties of their more collected species.

I find it quite easy to grow and bloom, not a small plant but not a monster. Like PaphMadMan said, it tends to cluster more tightly than many Catts.
I do grow outside though. |
I've ordered one, a young specimen of 1-2 years to bloom. It was the last one but, as they seem to be rather rare, I got it.
|
A mature tenebrosa can be as big (or bigger even) as a purpurata. Upright growth habit but quite tall- 24+inches/60+cm. Beautiful and big.

Got it already!
Small plant, looks healthy with a new root growing. Does its culture differs in anything from catts? I'm planning to give it the same conditions as my anceps, except for the min temps which should be higher. And how about watering? I have some doubts about it...:hmm https://s1.postimg.org/uxi7covfz/20170802_183517.jpg https://s1.postimg.org/nt0e3no6n/20170802_183531.jpg https://s1.postimg.org/9y23l6trj/20170802_183555.jpg |
You should probably stake that new growth. That will prevent the plant from wiggling as the new roots grow.
