Grammatocymbidian Mem. Nathan Newman, how big?
1 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a (I love typing this name) Grammatocymbidium Memoria Nathan Newman 'NN'. It's a nice looking plant, I think with wonderful blooms. It's outgrowing it's pot (4.5") because the newest p-bulb is straddling the lip of the pot. I have been told that this thing should grow like a Grammatophyllum and apparently, they can get enormous, ie easily 6' wide and 6' tall. I don't have space for something like that. I'm wondering if anyone has one and how big yours is.
Mine is currently about 2.5-3' tall. |
This should be interesting. Standard cymbidiums are big enough. Cross one with a Grammatophyllum and yikes!
I wonder if over-division might help keep it manageable. Otherwise, a two-story greenhouse may be in your future. Anyways, good growing. Nice yellow colors. |
Yeah, that's my fear. I may have to gift it to someone local with more space. I don't think the missus would be happy to lose the dining room table and gain a room divider

Really pretty. You could just play chase around the orchid games.

That is gorgeous!!!! Mine is nowhere near as big as that one. Mine should have its first blooming sometime soon though.

I prefer to live WITH my orchids. Even my Cyms will not force me into the next county to enjoy just one bloom form! Throw it into your back yard and let it take over.
|
Sadly, no back yard, and our environment would probably not be healthy without a fair amount of work on my part.
Just about an hour ago, I noticed that the newest p-bulb has some new roots coming. I ordered some new pots last night, so I'll be repotting into something a bit bigger soon. |
I bought 10 or 12 of them (for resale), and was left with two at the end of the season. At this stage (BS, but perhaps not mature yet), they are the size of the average standard Cymbidium.
It will take 1-2 years of growing to tell whether they will get any larger. |
