Den. antennatum leaves yellow and drop
 

I am in a bit of distress. I received this antennatum as a gift last fall and it is driving me crazy. It goes through phases of being beautiful with new growth, both a cane and a spike, but then the leaves slowly yellow and eventually drop. I have got it in medium-high light, water every 5-7 days, about 60% humidity and 75F.

hi! I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is natural for a den to lose leaves. Does this kind flower from the cane itself or from a spike? It might just be the older canes dropping their leaves due to age.

Hey! I was told this is one of the antelope type dendrobiums that do not lose their leaves. It grows a cute little spike off of the cane. I would be so relieved if it was just behaving naturally! I like this one very much. Thanks for your input!

I think this den doesn't loses its leaves.
Aren't you giving it too much light? It should be grown in dappled light.

Hello! I was indeed worried about too much light. I recently moved it to the area with my Miltassia and some kind of Cattleya intergeneric NOID. I am afraid it would not have enough light if I put it on the bright side of the phal area. Do you think it would be worth trying?

That's something you could try but I'm not familiarized with this plant. I would wait for more oppinions.

I have several dendrobiums that are not the nobile type and are blooming now, but I am not an expert. Every year a few of the bottom leaves turn yellow and drop, but that’s all. It looks like your den. is growing in packed moss, maybe you want to check the roots. You say you’ve had it since last fall, but do you know when it was repotted last? Moss beaks down faster than bark. Otherwise, mine are growing under grow lights—not directly under, but at the edge of the light fixture, and they seem happy with the amount of light they are getting.

A happy Den. antennatum wouldn't be dropping leaves like that. What kind/size medium is it potted in? Have you checked the condition of the roots?

The remainder of the plant and leaves look very dried out. I don't think Spathulatums like to be dry for very long. I would increase the watering. If you're worried about overwatering, use the skewer method, and water just before the center of the pot gets dry:

This is all wonderful information. It came from the grower in this little pot. It is in medium size bark with the little patch of moss, which was green when it arrived, sort of grown in the top. It did begin to grow a spike about a month or two ago, but I accidentally broke it off. I put a little spot of cinnamon paste on the wound. I pulled back the moss to see the roots and they are plump and white. I am preparing to order new potting equipment from repot me in the very near future, so I will check for a nice den medium. I am sad because my friend told me it is a vigorous grower and all I seem to be growing vigorous is golden leaves. 😭
