Brassia in trouble...HELP!
 

Just recently my Brs. lawrenceana has started to brown for no apparent reason. The pseudobulbs are still firm byt teh leaves are going mush and falling off.... I'm really worried as it's one of my favorite plants and it bloomed just 3 mths ago.

Help....anybody!

I never posted an answer because I have no clue. I hate seeing unanswered posts, so I'll try to help by bumping this back up to the top... Maybe someone can help this time around!:)

I'm thinking rot. I've not seen it this bad before, but Brassias need to really dry out between watering. Once rot sets in it's difficult to manage. I would try Thiomyl if you can get it. I got mine at Thiomyl OSG23: Camp Lot A Noise Tropicals but I don't know if they ship to your location - you could e-mail and check. It's a systemic rot curative that seems (to me) to stop rot in it's tracks. It won't cure rotted roots, but vegetative and crown rot are stopped pretty effectively.

I had it happen to some of my oncidiums. I suspect that it was due to 1) lack of sun and 2) watering when I should have misted.

It looks like overwatering. Same thing hapend to my Brassia, and I lost all 4 of my precious back bulbs. Took a year (literally) for it to finally get back to normal.

I'd repot it, and get rid of whatever death there is, otherwise, it will spread and/or continue to be susceptible.

Maybe the perfect opportunity to semi-hydro?

I think you guys are right. I did cut off the backbulbs (3 to be exact) :_( and i treated with bactericide/fungicide. So far it seems that the rot has stopped and there are some new growths coming along but very, very slowly.

I was told it could also be from too much fertilizer and my only explanation is that the charcoal could be the problem here since it retains salts that can build up to high levels overtime if one doesn't flush with water regularly. :hmm

I'm taking both into consideration and taking careful measures to save my baby.
