Is my Stan trying to tell me something?
Got this Stanhopea tigrina 'The Predator' in a pot in November 2015 and repotted into the basket in December.
It seems quite happy. Grown 2 bulbs so far this year. Lots of roots starting to come out the sides of the basket, but also all these little ones going straight up. Is it trying to tell me something? http://www.orchidboard.com/community...7/IMG_0318.JPG |
My Gongora do the same thing. They grow and bloom normally.

It's trying to tell you it grows that way normally.

I had hoped that was what it was trying to tell me. I was afraid it was saying, "Help we aren't getting enough air."
It is hanging next to a Stan embreei that isn't doing the same thing. But this one is a little more mature. And I actually noticed this evening that the embreei is starting a couple of those as well. I just love the Stans. |
In the wild these upward growing roots will cause debris to be trapped and therefore provide food for the plant.

jcec1 -- I hadn't thought of that...wonder if it is trying to say "feed me Seymore, feed me now!" I might up the fertilizer a bit -- just a little bit.
I did just notice this morning what looks like a new pbulb coming on. Which would be the third since repotting in December. Overall I think I have a pretty happy plant. |
Your plant is indeed telling you something: "Don't change a thing!"
