Gastrochilus retrocallus in bloom
1 Attachment(s)
Gastrochilus retrocallus is also known as Haraella retrocallus, but a rose by any other name :).
I bought this last January bare root and in bud. I mounted it and it dropped its bud. Now it has rewarded me with 1 flower and another on the way. It is mounted on cork with some sphagnum around the roots. It gets misted daily and sometimes 2x a day in hot weather. Attachment 102139 |

Gorgeous, mine has just finished flowering for the first time, I just love it.
According to Kew the name Gastrochilus retrocallus is now the accepted one. I didn't know that, I thought it was Harella retrocalla. However bear in mind this Kew species list sometimes contradicts the RHS hybrid list :dunno: World Checklist of Selected Plant Families: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ---------- Post added at 01:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:16 PM ---------- :coverlaugh: Although look at the link from Kew more closely. It says Harella retrocalla is a synonym and Gastrochilus retrocallus is the accepted name, BUT when you click on the 'Not Accepted By' it appears that "The Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew" don't accept it. When you click on the link to the Harella retrocalla entry it says it's a synonym and Gastrochilus retrocallus is the accepted name... then on the 'Accepted By' tab for the Harella name it says it's accepted by "The Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew" So... I'm confused, it seems a database maintained by Kew lists Gastrochilus as the accepted genus however at the same time Kew does not accept that name :scratchhead: |
