Hello from west tx

Hi all! I'm new to the hobby. I have loved orchids for a very long time and finally gathered the courage to try them out. I have three phals I saved from Wal-Mart. I'm trying to identify them now. I have new growth on the two smaller ones. I'll try to upload pics soon.

They're generic NOID hybrids. You won't ever have a positive ID because there are so many Phal hybrids and many can look nearly identical to another.

Good luck saving them! It's a great way to get started in the hobby, IMO. You learn a lot from rescuing plants that are not in perfect condition!

That's what I was afraid of. They're really beautiful and I'm glad they're looking so much better.

What's to be afraid of? Some of my favorites are NOIDs. :) every now and then, you can get lucky and find labelled and named orchids at a big box store like that, but who cares? The important thing is that they make you happy. :)

:welcome: Most people start out with Phals first, then as they get more comfortable, tend to branch out and acquire other types. good luck.

Hello and welcome!
I have mostly species orchids and then a few favorite hybrids but I still have a few of those nameless box-store orchids. Some of them are just too nice to not have in one's collection! :)

NOID simply means there is no established heritage. It has nothing to do with neither the beauty of the plant nor of the blooms. Welcome to the boards. I believe the magic number of posts is 5 to be able to post pictures. And we sure love our pictures here. :D
