My lucky day! 2 noid phals for the price of NONE!!

My husband and I went to one of the home improvement stores today to pick up a grill. While we were waiting for them to put it together for us (supposed to take about 20 minutes) we decided to go browse the garden center. There was a HUGE selection of phals and after a careful and lengthy examination of them all we chose two really lovely ones, very different from the colors I have now (if they ever recover enough to rebloom...poor things). It was almost an hour before the grill was finally done and when we went to pay for the orchids the manager told us to take them as their apology for the grill taking so long. I couldn't have been happier! Got them home and repotted and was delighted to find that there was only the slightest amount of root rot and they both have TONS of new root growth. Hoping all the trauma wont cause the buds to blast because there are tons that are still unopened

Sounds like a win to me! Congratulations!

Sweet! It's always nice to wind up with free plants (especially ones like orchids that normally have double digit prices).

Free is always the best price:) Bet that made your day inspite of the long set up for the grill.

Here's some advice. Don't repot them yet. Let them finish flowering and when the first flowers fall, repot. You can easily repot now but waiting awhile won't make much difference. If they are in sphagnum moss, take the plant out of the pot and with tweezers, pull out the moss a little at a time. Do it slowly from the bottom center outward and up. Take it out a little at a time. Once most of it is off the roots, repot it into the same pot with the same moss. Just use the moss that was on the outer part of the rootball. Place the plant in the pot with the roots all the way to the bottom. then place small wads of moss down around the roots. Small-wads-of-moss. Keep placing them down among the roots until the roots are covered. Wait a day before watering. Once you soak the moss, let it alone until the moss is dry. Then water again. Your plant will do just fine. Here's one I repotted a couple weeks ago.
