Amitostigma lepidum culture info?
I am new to this variety and count myself lucky to get this particular orchid in the US! But, I can't find a lot of information on how to grow them other than they produce leaves and bloom during winter and are dormant during summer. Would anyone be able to help me figure out how to keep these alive long term?
Thanks! Paul McMahon Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
I dont know anything. I just started browsing the web. The most interesting thing I read was that they became dormant in the summer, and grew in the winter. Opposite of most other orchids. This adapts them to a long dry summer.
Don't worry, someone will answer your post. There are very experienced orchid growers here. Maybe the mods can put this where it can be seen better? |
I read that as well, and it is really fascinating!
However, I find it funny that one source said to keep them between 50 and 55F at night, and to keep them protected from frost. I had to laugh... Perhaps I didn't understand it correctly, but how do you get frost when the night low is only 50F? That tidbit of information seemed to be incorrect from my perspective thus far. I was also confused by how to water and fertilize it. Winters aren't dry, nor are summers. Yet, the website said they can take the heat and dry summers. So wasn't sure if I should water less during the summer when it is hot, and how often to water in the other seasons. Paul McMahon Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
