Ida / Lycaste locusta

A distinctive peruvian species, growing on the ground in the Andes in elevations at around 2000 - 3000m, where nights are always fresh and humid, but the intense sun can warm up the ground in the day.
Not too difficult to grow. Waxy flower, staked upright for photographic purpose.

Outstanding. Love that green color.

Question about Ida locusta: I bought one a couple years ago. Looked a bit rough at the psuedobulbs, and suspect it was small as it has yet to bloom. It has grown well for two seasons=.

How large must the psuedobulbs be to bloom? I thought it might bloom this fall but noting.

Thanks,

Phil

First, Welcome!

Now, this is a 9 year old thread (and the various participants haven't posted in years)... I suggest that you ask the question in a new thread in the Beginners forum... you are likely to get more attention!

Will do. I would have replied sooner except I went into your posts and ended up amazed at your collection.

Happy holidays!

I love this plant and have had it for two or three years. It's never bloomed for me.

Is this one that you have in your collection, Roberta?

I don't have this one. I have Ida ciliata. Took a few years, but has finally gotten to where it blooms fairly reliably. Don't know what finally made it happy though, other than time.
