Is the ID this right, Pinocchio, linemanum, or other.
So I had given up hope on getting a new pinocchio until I saw this at the Peterborough show on Friday, tagged as pinocchio, and looking right to my eye.
Someone has suggested it might be linemanum instead. To be honest if it had been tagged linemanum I would still have bought it, but I'm not keen for it to be a NOID. So what do others think? |
Couldn't find a way to post the image from Flickr to Tappatalk :( after lots of tries gave up and grabbed the PC.
Guess it's easy from tappatalk if the photo is on my phone, but not if it's already hosted somewhere. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7270/7...726ec0e9a5.jpg |
The white edged dorsal sepal isn't at all typical for Pinocchio, but is exactly what would be expected from liemianum. That certainly isn't definitive, and I think there are a lot of mislabeled cochlopetalum hybrids and species out there that are virtually indistinguishable. Short of having it identified in person by an expert it should probably be considered NoID.

Find a geneticist who'd be willing to ID for it for a reasonable price?

It's annoying because I would have bought liemianum if it was tagged as that, and I would have bought Pinocchio... but I didn't want a NoID. I have no idea how to even start going about finding a geneticist to test it. I am likely just to keep the Pinocchio tag, but put a note on it that there is a question-mark about it being liemianum and also make sure to point that out when I show pics of it. Oh well  Thanks PaphMadMan & Philip for the advise. |
I don't know Rosie, sorry. I wish I could have gone to the Peterborough show. I bet there was lots to see and buy. Maybe next year.

I see no reason to doubt the Pinocchio ID. The white edged dorsal is typical of glaucophyllum, and often shows up in hybrids of that species.
|
Thanks Kip, that's good to know.

Liemianum, note the shape of the staminode.
|
the shape and color of the staminode are typical of primulinum (the other parent of Pinocchio). I still see no reason to doubt the original ID.
