Help identify Oncidium bought at garden center
1 Attachment(s)
I bought this beautiful Oncidium from a local garden center here in Raleigh. It came without a tag, and I was so excited I forgot to note the details. I recall the name included cat spots or something similar. Can you please help me identify this variety?

I think it may be Beallara (Brassia, Cochlioda, Miltonia and Odontoglossum) - possibly Bllra Patricia McCully ?

That is it! I am sure. So it's a hybrid of four genera?
|
Gorgeous flowers! The great thing about these Oncidium intergenerics is that they are usually really easy to identify since each tends to be unique looking.
And yes, it is a hybrid of the 4 genera, somewhere in the parentage. I looked it up in Orchidwiz this hybrid has a 'family tree' that goes back at least 6 generations! |
How does one get started creating hybrid orchids? I guess you need to know much about pollination and propagation.

It seems like the lavender based ivory white tinged yellow center:
Beallara Big Shot 'Kitty Kat' mine is the ivory based but with a lavender tinge and a yellow center go and search for its parents and its culture |
I think WhiteRabbit is dead on, I don't really like putting a label on an unknown hybrid but in this case I really don't think there can be much doubt that it is
Bllra Patricia McCully. Good catch Rabbit, an extra carrot for you tonight!! |
Right Glen...I really think he should go back to the source and get the tag. Assuming or guessing is kinda hard...
|
Yes, a tag would be vry nice to have, but the advantage of these intergenerics is that they are usually unique enough to be able to be confidently IDed.

Yeah, some of the Oncidium alliance inter-generics can be quite distinct looking ... |
