Paph Grecian Maid
I have to do some research on this one, I got it as a gift with a hand written tag from a friend who can't remember where he bought it. All the Grecian Maids that I have seen in the past have been what could be considered flames of vinicolored. The cross is Paph Hellas (a green complex paph with a white halo) X Paph Maudiae (a primary maudiae type cross). I have a hard time wrapping my head around this coming out of the above parents. Any thoughts?
Here is a link to what I think of as a typical type plant from this cross; Google Images |
I don't know about the name, but it's beautiful!

Thanks, but don't get me wrong, I really like it, I just I don't understand how it came out the way it did, thus the research, I don't like mysteries to go unsolved.

Gorgeous flower. Reminds me of one of my NoID's.
I can see what you mean about the differences. I don't know if different individuals in the parents could lead to this much difference or not. It would be interesting to know. |
I'd vote on a mislabel.

Ray - I was thinking the same thing, just didn't want to say it out loud.

Well, the shape is very similar, but definitely not the colour. It is lovely tho.

I'm still always learning about orchids, but I know when it comes to genetics dormant genes can make a huge difference. If the parents had a bunch of dormant color genes you could get some crazy colors.
