Paph venustum

I've put off posting this picture for about a week now because I was hoping the dorsal would become more upright. Isn't going to happen, so here it is. Maybe next time it will put on a better show. I do love the veins on the pouch! This is P. venustum 'Blatant' x P. venustum 'Constant'

It's nice anyways and you can still see the dorsal real well. Love the veins on the pouch and stripes on the dorsal.

Love the pouch alot too! :crossfing: for you that the dorsal petal is straight next flowering!

My Paph venustum just finished blooming. It was really nice, but like yours, the Dorsal did not open fully -
infact, I have had the same problem with 4 other Paphs that are in bloom right now......
It is the one thing about blooming Paphs that really really bugs me .... and now I'm seeing a pattern.
I don't know if its the plant, or the enviornment.

My suk. x didnt hold its head up for this 1st flowering and a friend of mine told me to place the plant on a 45 deg angle as the bud comes up, bud facing the bench then stand it up when it opens. Not sure what happened but i sort of want to just leave it just to see if if going to open normal next time or not.

Its a fanstastic bloom anyway. Everytime I see a Paph in bloom they amaze me. Just seem so 'otherworldly'. (Like how flowers on Neptune might look :))
OK guess I'm ready for that nap now!
Cheers,
Tony

Beautiful flower, Howard. One of my favorite Paphs and one of the few I grow.

Thanks to all for such encouraging comments. BTW: I usually have my Paphs that are in spike with the flower front facing away from the sunlight in hopes that it will open more erect and the dorsal will be more upright and flat..... sometimes it works and then I wonder if some Paphs just are this way. And someone else may have the same plant and theirs opens just fine????????
