Masd. leaves wilting?
Hey All,
My Masd. put up a bunch of new growth as the days started lengthening, and I would say about 20% of the leaves wilted at the base. The tips are still thick and green, but the base of the leaves turned yellow and thin, and the leaves collapsed. I am assuming this is a problem related to humidity, so have added a humidity tray and started misting daily (my Dracula lotax is also putting out flower stalks, so I am misting it too). Any other suggestions as to what this could be? Thanks! |
What is the temperature? I've had that problem when they got too warm.

Too much water does the same thing.
Can you post a pic? |
The wilting started after the plant dried out a bit, actually...the plant is in sphag and gets watered once a week. The temps around here have been pretty stable, definitely not hot (we broke 55 for the first time this year yesterday)
I will post some pictures of it as soon as I can! |
How are your roots? Take a look to make sure all's well

I mist mine every day and they get watered several times a week, growing in sphag and still kept fairly cool. They don't like to dry out and need high humidity.

The roots are in good shape (first thing I did when I looked at it). I am guessing it was the dry spell the plant went through when I missed a watering. I will try to post a pic tonight!

It sounds to me like it got a little too dry.
I have my masdevallia in a clay pot in sphag, which I have set inside another clay pot with clay pellets in the bottom. I have set these inside a glass container, so that the masd. is just slightly bellow the top of this round, clear vase. I keep a little water in the bottom, and it wicks up and adds humidity, while keeping it cool. |
