Spring 2011 Project - Sign Up
OK... it's that time again. Spring is here, the weather is getting warmer and we can start thinking about having another Orchid Board project.
I'm willing to run this one if we get enough participants (lets say 10 or more) and enough plant suggests to give us a good choice. I would like everyone who is planning to participate to try and come up with one or more plant suggestions, the more suggestions the better! It's just going to be a single plant this time as I think that works better. It probably needs to be intermediate as most people can grow those. What's it all about? For those who have not taken part before the idea is for everyone to buy the same plant at around the same time, then compare notes on how they are doing. It's a great way to learn more about our hobby, my first projects was also my first species orchid... it was a great way to expand my experience and try something I would never have tried otherwise. Once a plant is selected, you purchase it and share everything about it. What it looks like when arrived, how you intend to grow it. Conditions. ect. It's great fun and you just may learn a thing or two. From start to purchase can take a month or two to allow as many people as possible to take part. In the past a couple of the projects have also been competitions, but we'll just be doing this one for the fun of it :) The process: 1. Compile participants list (sign up by replying to this thread) 2. Take plant suggestions and compile a list of plants that fit the criteria (make suggestions here) 3. Vote for final selection 4. Purchase final selection 5. Share your new arrival, growing conditions, care tech., success or failure 6. Have fun! We are on steps 1 and 2 (which I'll run in parallel to each other). Plant Criteria: Species only $20/€20 max. (shipping not included) 12"max plant size (16" with flower spike) Blooming Size Intermediate Temp. grower (may vary slightly) Available in the USA and Europe. UK and Canada requirements may be added depending on participants. Plant Suggestions To help me out I will need everyone to do the research about the plants they are suggesting. There are more details about what info needs to be provided on the plant suggestions thread. Plants used in previous projects (these won't be considered again) Project 1 - Phal. lobbii Project 2 - Angraecum scottianum Project 3 - Paph. venustum Project 4 - Aerangis luteoalba var rhodostica Project 5 - Laelia reginae Project 6a - Sediera japonica Project 6b - Neo. falcata Project 7 - Mystery Cirr. tingabarium, Asc. pumilum, Res. dodsonii Spring 2009 - Haraella retrocalla Summer 2009 - Miltonia spectabilis, Coelogyne cristata, Leptotes unicolor Spring 2010 - Rhynchostylis coelestis, Dendrobium loddigesii, Laelia anceps Summer 2010 - Maxillaria tenuifolia Have fun everyone! |

OMG! Please sign me up! I don't know that much about orchids, but would love to learn about something new.
I successfuly grow phal's, oncidiums and phaius' currently. So I would be alright with anything that anyone suggests! I will still search out some suggestions though. |
