Buds don't open on Phalaenopsis
1 Attachment(s)
Please help a newbie - I've got a couple of orchids in a vivarium, been up about a month. One is a Phalaenopsis, fishing line tied to a piece of wood. It seems to be staying alive, and has gotten several new buds on the shoot (sorry if wrong terminoligy) - but the buds just rapidly wilt and fall off without opening. A leaf on the bottom turned brown and fell off, too. I mist the viv a couple of times a day. Suggestions, please please please?

Thanks, I've been trying, my computer is messing with me- I'm as bad with it as I am with plants...

kind of a bad pic, hopefully helps?

were there any drastic changes in environment?
on a side note, with the crown of your phal pointed up, and a misting system, your likely to get water into the corwn. causing crown rot |
Thanks for replying...last change was a month ago when I put him in the vivarium...I'm hand misting, so I can control when/where he gets mist..sorry to be incompetent, but which part is the crown? where the leaves come out, or up on the stalk? I have not been avoiding misting any part of him, so that would make sense as part/all of my problem...

how soon, in relation to the last big change, did the buds start dropping? this could be the cause, although, i have a mounted phal, that just lost two buds, for no apparent reason, so it could be "just because"
the crown is the part where the leaves meet, where the new leaves come from |
It had a couple of good little buds on it when he was put into viv. Those died, then it sprouted a few new ones within a week of transfer. Those died. I'm about a month out now, and he has another new bud, but I'm worried it will have same fate... read your article, thanks for the info.
