Paph blooming question
 

I am looking at buying a paph that has nine growths. Many are mature but have never bloomed. It was growing somewhere that was thought to be too warm for blooming. The seller doesn't think the older ones will ever bloom. Is this the case or with proper culture would they all have the potential to bloom?

well, I'm not positive, but in general, orchids (and many other blooming plants) only bloom on new growth, tho there are some exceptions. So I wouldn't expect old fans to bloom, even if they haven't previously

I agree with WhiteRabbit. I don't think the older growth will bloom now. However a plant with 9 growths should be nice and strong to support the new growths towards blooming.

depending on the particular plant - it could be possible some of the most recent fans could bloom, depends on how old they are, and when this plant likes to bloom ...

I agree with silken that a 9 fan paph sounds to be healthy and happy and even if no older fans bloom, you will get more than one new fan per growth cycle, and those could definitely bloom well!

If a growth hasn't bloomed I don't think it matter how old it is..It can still bloom..How do you think they get the specimen plants with all the spikes? Those are slowly grown plants with lots of old growths in very low light. Lower light and the plants grow larger and put off the blooming. Add high light in the day combined with reduced temp at night vegatation stops growing and it will bloom all the growths that havent bloomed.
It will take gallons of clean water and plenty of bloom booster. :)

Saw the reply you got from paphmadman and would have to agree that this may be a very difficult cross to flower based on the cross, a maudi x multifloral. I would caution about overdoing it with the fertilizer. While Paphs need to be fed, they like it very weak and not every time you water or you will burn the leaf tips.... I know because I've been there and done that.
