Phalaenopsis with protrusion from moss - is is a root and what should I do?
I am very new to orchids. I recently went to an annual show and bought a phalaenopsis. It has been blooming since I bought it with old flowers dropping and new buds blooming again. One of my stems stopped blooming and I cut it back. It is starting to grow back. My question now is - I also have what appears to be part of the root coming up through the moss. How do I know if it is a root? If it is, is it time to re-pot or try to separate to make another plant?

Hi and Welcome to OB :) If it is an aerial root, it's nothing to worry about - some phals grow lots of them others not so much. Generally, they're a sign of good health. It'd help if you could post a picture so we can check it out for you

Thanks. I am also new to posting. :) I'll have to learn how to post a picture.

Ha ha, that sounds like me before I joined OB (I'd never belonged to a forum before!). Once you're on the advanced reply, scroll down and click on 'manage attachments'. You should be able to browse your computer files from there
