Hi,
Assuming that the longest root outside the pot continues growing down, the tip touches the bench surface and turns brown, will all the small root-nub tips that are growing from it turn brown and wither away, as well? (I wish it would take a u-turn and grow into the drain hole  ) The main reason I ask this is because I've been wishing lately that I had hung this pot after I rec'd and repotted the orchid initially. At this point, could any of you advise me if there is a way that I could hang the pot without disturbing roots? I would appreciate your help.
Vicki

use a pot clip, that shouldn't disturb the roots, or soak pot overnite and repot.

Yes, you can buy pot hangers that clip onto the pot

Hi Carol,
I'm not sure what a pot hanger is.....is it either of these two? Awhile back, I bought them here online, but I don't remember what each of them are called.....I just bought them so I could see which of the two I like best since I had never tried either before.

Please let me know, if you don't mind.
Thanks,
Vicki

Hi WhiteRabbit,
If you don't mind, please read what I typed above to Carol and look at the pics. I would appreciate it if one of you will let me know which is which.
Thanks,
Vicki

Hi Vicki
I was thinking about what you show in the first pic - but anything that will hold the pot, and works to your liking should be good.

I'm so jealous lol - roots outside the pot don't last long for me - too dry here :p

Hi again,
Thank you....I feel sure I will come up with something (not sure if it will be the best solution I could have picked, though). Anyway, what you said is exactly the reason I don't want those roots to die.....I have so few outside of the pots.

Luckily, the humidity is good here this summer, but winter will be a different story. I expect it to be very low then (the average was 25-35% last winter). Now it's approx. 65-85% outside. It's close to that in my greenhouse.....a tad more many days when I run my swamp cooler and/or misters. I'm trying to be careful about that, though (as best I know how).....I sure don't want it to be so damp in there that it causes fungus. Gee, I have enough challenges as it is.....trying to learn the ins and outs of orchid growing. I've only had 2 yrs. experience. Eek.....that's not much!

Thanks for your reply and help,
Vicki

Hi both of your pics are pot hangers and probably will work out fine, I was thinking about a 2in, little metal clip that clips to side of pot and then you hang it on a nail. Some are made of plastic too. The top has two holes to hang it by. Kind of works more lke a paperclip. Don't have any handy to show. your 1st pic would do less damage than the circle hanger.

Pots are so frustrating to me for many reasons but specially for this reason do I love mounts. I got a bunch of small catts at an orchid show for a really ridiculous price and soon repotted them into bigger clay pots and now they have roots growing out like your Vicky and some have grabbed on tight to the bench. I'm glad they are happy but at the same time I am thinking...this can't be good. I also have some others hanging from clips and they have wrapped around the pot AND the clips:shock:
