Another 8 flowerless and nameless orchids, anybody?
Hello all, these are another 8 flowerless and nameless orchids I got from Chiang Mai, Thailand. Irresistable buying urge.
Anybody knows anything about them or their uptake? I am really a beginner here and is so sorry to trouble all of you. So far I have only been misting their roots daily, and hanging them by the windowsill. I hope this is enough. Thanks, STHH http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid2.jpg Orchid 2 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid3.jpg Orchid 3 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid4.jpg Orchid 4 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid5.jpg Orchid 5 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid6.jpg Orchid 6 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid7.jpg Orchid 7 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid8.jpg Orchid 8 http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...ch/Orchid9.jpg Orchid 9 |

Can't wait for them to bloom. |
To me # 5 looks more like Brassavola cucculata than anything else. Mine looks just like it with a bigger amount og leaves.
|
#3, #8 and #9 all seem to be in the Oncidium Alliance. Now we won't know which ones are they until they bloom.

number 5 looks like some kind of ghost. |
no.5 looks like a Dockrillia to me. Used to be classed as Dendrobium.

I'll put in my own thoughts on number 5 possibilities:
Seidenfadenia mitrata, I think it's pretty popular in Southeast Asia, so might be more likely than some other possibilities. I can't tell though from your photo if the plant is monopodial or not (all my suggestions are for terete monopodial orchids, if it's sympodial, all my suggestions are wrong) Here's S. mitrata: Butterfly & Orchids Photo Gallery in Thailand - Seidenfadenia mitrata - ???????????/Seidenfadenia mitrata You may also want to check out photos of Paraphalaenopsis as well, they have similar terete leaves http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ensis_-_pl.jpg http://www6.worldisround.com/photos/29/331/576.jpg |
