Another new NOID
 

Dunno about this one. I got it mainly because it is so different from my usual phal. Any ideas if it is specific phal or still just a NOID?

I found one of those yuck bugs on it. Those things that are a little furry and have little spines, especially the long ones out the back...maybe scales? ANyway, I only found one and removed the thing from the spike. I then inspected the rest of the plant and found only bit of the white fur from these pests but nothing that looked alive. I then sprayed the plant with alcohol. I'm worried about using alcohol but I know it kills these pest on contact. If it does have bugs it doesn't look to be infested. Needless to say this plant will NOT be touching other phals or plants. for a while.

Well i went away for the weekend on a quick trip and returned to find the bloom in the photo has blasted right off the spike. The other unopened buds remain and seem healthy and growing.

Also happy to report that there is no evidence of bugs!

Cute phal! Those white furry insects are mealybugs and seem to prefer areas of potential or new growth. They can hide in the sheaths that cover the nodes of the spike and in between the leaves. Mild infestations are easy to eliminate like you did.

Thanks Sarah. I'll continue a daily inspection and snuff out any bugs as I see them. BTW, they are really gross... gross tails and fur... nothing at all nice about them! guess thats why they're bugs. :)
