Paph Hunkpapa
 

I just bought this one in bloom earlier this week--saw it at the florist and couldn't resist!

Who comes up with the names for these plants! Is there a HunkMama? LOL!

The Hunkpapa were a subtribe of the Lakota (Sioux). Sitting Bull was their most well-known tribal leader prior to his assasination.

Nice one Scott - who sprayed your flower with lacquer. It looks slick.

The hybridizer, Wilson, created many complex hybrids and named a good number of them for native Indians and their tribes. Grexes such as Crazy Horse, Ogallala, Hunkpapa, Sioux, etc are examples.

Well I heard of most of those Indian tribes, but Hunkpapa was a new one on me!

That's a quality that comes from Paph mastersianum, one of its parents.
