Vanda coerulea var semi-alba

Hi !

From July to December, it is the season of Vanda coerulea. For myself, it is one of my favourite. It seems that it starts well this year with var alba at first.
Two other plants will bloom soon as well, The pict will come too.

It is soooo beautiful. I love the lip.

I already have "Vanda Fever", and it is great to watch those buds open. I'm watching one now that bloomed for me only 6 months ago. It is Ascda. Blue Tahourdin 'Bronze Grape'. It is one that changes color after it has been open for a while, it goes from a definate grape color to a deep bronze.

I love this beauty!

Does this species do well in Bangkok? As I know, Vanda coerulea comes from highland and seems to enjoy cool weather.

Thanks everybody for comments.
Pheli, you're right and I should answer something like yes but no but... LOL
High temperature is not a problem for this specie but the specie does its best when it has a cool to cold period during winter. And this cool period is not easy to get in Bangkok. Last winter was ok, with temperature of 15C/59F to 25C/77F during more than a month, it is very very cold For Bangkok. But two years ago during this period, temperatures never went down 20C/68F. If the coerulea that you're growing just arrived from a farm in the highlands, there is good chance that it won't bloom.
From my own experience and I can talk only about central Thailand, there are 2 ways of making bloom this specie with short cool period during winter:
- Some farms around Bangkok and central Thailand are now develloping plants which bloom without cool period.
- I have some plants from the highlands and after years, they adapt and bloom. But I say , years , be patient.
What about in Taiwan with this specie ?

Thanks, Philippe.

There are some nursery plants of this species imported this year. The bare-root plants are grown in the baskets and look healthy. I may pick one and try it.

Pheli, you should it's a wonderful specie ! Not difficult and it bloms up to 3 or 4 times in a row every year.
Despite the cool/cold period that I mentioned before, Vanda coerulea loves around 2 hours of full sun per day. Then, you will see, you'll fall in love with those flowers.
