Growth in Paph Vanda M. Pearman
Hi all,
Some of you may remember my first Paph bloom. If you were around, how could you forget. It was like having my first kid. Every change was a chance to take a pic. Well, Im up to my old habits again. Just as a reminder, this is what this orchid was doing a few months ago: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...Pearman-17.JPG and then it sadly lost its blooms after a month of glory, and began to sprout new growths. At first I thought there would be three, but only one kept growing. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...19_Medium_.JPG and a few months later, here it is. The oldest leaf is nearly the size of the adult leaves. However the parent plant lost another leaf today. Kinda sad, but the promise of a new plant keeps things on a happy note. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...Pearman-20.JPG Sooooo, I hope I get to see it bloom again this May-June. :cheer: Thanks for looking! |
I just love the steps of progress...it will be hard to see my adult leaf die off one at a time and if Gin didn't let me know that I would have been the embarrassment of the OB writing wondering what the hell was goin' on with the beauty...it's great to be able to share in your first experience of producing a bloom...can't wait until mine blooms...might not this year but by the looks of yours...I can't wait....tks Tindo...you do well in your orchid addiction..

Very happy looking paph and it's doing everything it's surpose to. Good growing Tindo.

Thanks all. Hey Cheryl, I've been there. Imagine my shock on Orchid Board Chat, when I found out that the original plant dies off. Now I just think of it like an oncidium. New Pseudobulbs bloom, old ones diminish and eventually die. But the plant as a whole keeps on going.

Tin - that is a beautiful paph! good luck with the growing :)

By the way, for those of you who don't know, I got this orchid from LittleFrog. One of the many fine vendors/members/AOS judges on the board.

The original plant will eventually fade away but it should stick around for awhile. I have several Paphs that have 4-5 year old (previously bloomed) growths. Your plant looks healthy and that old fan looks like it will be okay for quite some time yet...it will lose an occasional leaf for awhile. What kind of pot is it in...looks interesting!

Hi, its a fake rock planter. What I do is I stick it on a side of my terrariums, and it looks like a rock with an Orchid growing out of it.

Hey Tindo, is this your first Paph? Nice gowing. In yer second picture it looks like 2 growths are starting - is the other one doing anything yet?
Imagine 2 new growths with 2 flowers each!! |
I, too, have a mottle leaved paph that, after flowering, produced two new growths - and only one matured. The other one still hangs out, 5 months later, still teeny weeny. I wonder if it will eventually die off or start to mature at a later date?
Anyone know? :scratchhead: |
