This is the third spike to open. Flowers are about 12 inches long, top to bottom, and feature the typical wobbly Bulbo lip. They smell a bit like watermelon!

Watermelon, huh? That's a new one to me. Congrats!

I didn't know that flowers could be so long! It looks very nice.:) Watermelon? You mean that bulbos can actually smell nice? That's a first!

He must mean rotting watermelon

Actually it's surprisingly decent-smelling. I was also shocked. And even more weirdly, the scent comes from the long trailing petals, not the center of the flower. :scratchhead:

Very nice, Stephen, and inspiring! I've had one of these plants for about a year now but it is obviously not doing well. I don't know what age it would be. What are you growing your's in, please? Any culture suggestions?

:)

I've been growing mine in a plastic Vanda basket in a mix of straight sphag moss and tree fern. It gets watered as the moss starts to dry out, and fed every watering with MSU. I grow all my Bulbos on the same shelf as the Catts under a bank of four T5 lights, but at the front edge of the shelf, away from direct light and partially shaded by the Catts. None of my Bulbos seem all that fussy about humidity; they all bloom happily in normal room conditions. I did notice a big (positive) difference when I increased the air circulation with a bigger fan set closer to the plants. Hope this helps some, but as we all know, everyone's growing conditions are different! :)

Mine seems very sensitive to heat and light, nothing above 80 degrees for some reason...
