Bulbophyllum echinolabium blooming!
4 Attachment(s)
I'm so excited! First bloom on my Bulbophyllum echinolabium just opened today. 14.25 in (36 cm) from top to bottom and a new bloom is starting behind it. It's in a Milsbo cabinet with 40 watt lights and a couple computer fans running. Got inspired to get one after seeing HAL from My Green Pets (thank you for the super helpful videos btw!). Think I'll call this one Hedgie.

That's a great flower! Mine are testing my patience.

Wow. Stunning flower.
|
Gorgeous huge flower. Its "aroma" can be forgiven with all that beauty.
|
Great! HAL's record is 26 sequential flowers on the same spike, hope yours will do as well or better!

Today bloom #2 on Hedgie opened up and I can see the start of #3. Just recording the blooms here to keep track of how many are produced. Smell is stronger than first one (FUNKY!!!) but luckily only when the cabinet is open.
Bloom #2 Date: 29 Mar 2025 Length: 13.5" |

Today bloom #3 on Hedgie opened up and I can see the start of #4. Smell isn't as strong as last time but I'm betting tomorrow it will be stronger than right now. Definite trend of each sequential bloom getting smaller. Each sequential bloom is opening approximately two weeks after the previous one.
Bloom #3 Date: 15 Apr 2025 Length: 12.0" (when straightened) |
Very cool! Where did you get it from?
|
I got it from Tropical Exotique in July 2023 at the San Francisco Orchid Show. One of those preorder deals where you just pick it up at the show. Good sized healthy plants for really good prices. Bare root though of course.
