Dendrobium Amabile SOS
1 Attachment(s)
I love dendrobium but this particular one hates me and I too hate it. It's one of my parent's near death orchid that I tried to revive last summer, I repotted it in fresh bark medium and it gave me new growth but that growth wilted and dehydrated at the end of the summer. It was grown under dappled sunlight, and let it dry in between watering.
I'm not even sure if it is salvageable, but it's winter now so I dont know what can I do for it to get through the cold spells. I wanted to check its root, but I'm afraid it wont be able to handle another uproot shock. this is the first dendrobium that failed on me. :dumb: |
It might live. The most important thing to remember is Dendrobiums must not get dry when making new growth. Most of them don't ever want to be completely dry.
If they dry out once while making new growth all the new growths might die. The plant will try to make more new growths. If those dry out the plant may die. Larger Dens have enough energy to make a third set of new growths. If those dry out and die the plant probably will die, too. As for what to do now - there is probably nothing wrong with the roots so there is no point unpotting it. Keep watering it when the bark is almost dry. If it has enough energy to make more growth it may survive. Once that new growth starts, at any time during the year, remember to keep the plant moist to wet until the new growth has matured. |
Alright, thanks estacion.
I'll try to keep it in somewhere not too cold for now |
