Winter rest lighting

Can orchids take less or no sunlight during winter rest? Specifically thinking of Dendrobium kingianum, but would be interested in knowing in general as well.

I'm thinking about putting my kingianum in the garage for it to cool off during the winter, but there's zero sunlight there.

Alternatively I can put it somewhere where it does get a small amount of sunlight but the temperature drop would be pretty small.

Generally speaking, winter includes cooler temperatures, less cloud cover (& rain, hence less food) and dropped leaves on deciduous trees, so more light.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Den. kingianum does far better with as much winter light as you can give. It also appreciates very cool winter nights, but not freezing.
