Laelia tenebrosa

I have a special love for this one- the magnificent contrast that every example seems to have from the strong orange ones to the soft brown and olive like this one seems to be.

i obtained this plant in a unique and awesome way- i was at home depot and cruised by the orchids as i always do and i saw a big tray of 6" catt types in a try looking BEAT UP...like wilty and sad and i looked them over and found this plant and another (a sweet primary hybrid i cant recall atm) and figured for the $19 each it was worth quarantining them and seeing if i could save them.

i guessed it was a case of the product did not move in time and the medium fell behind the plant and the roots were weak- i repotted them in a rocky and super open mix and set them in the Q area.

once i saw healthy new growths i relocated her to the main catt bench and she took off

this is the first flower (3-4 year after acquiring) and there are between 10-15 new growths that are some stage behind this one

enjoy

Probably due to high humidity.
There are several varieties. This one, I can't recall, but it has "Bronze" in its name.

I would have tipped on them enjoying the sound of outdoor crickets but that would be dismissing DC as the grower so without him they would have ended in the bin.
I would have tried to haggle for a discount though.

The green dot in the center helps with the contrast so yes a great flower

The 'primeval' look of tenebrosa is so nice. Very nice capture DC. Beautiful.

And much of the credit you deserve is by recognizing the best conditions for that species.
