First blooms on C. Princesse Clementine x C. velutina
Here is the first bloom on a hybrid between C. Princesse Clementine (C. aclandiae x C. dowiana) and C. velutina. The plant is small, the p-bulbs are ~3.5" tall with ~3.5" blooms! The flower began to reflex on the second day, like velutina blooms. The fragrance is strong and outstanding. It smells like orange-flavored chocolate...!
The plant is a little finicky... with sensitive roots. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e79d286c_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f4746995_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...efae3feb_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c0ba24f6_z.jpg |

Mmmm.... chocolate!
Mmmm... oranges! I like it!! Maybe because I like velutina as well :) |
 Lovely!!!

I really like it! The lines and spots...wonderful!
|
Very nice. Good growing.

This is outstanding. Beautiful. Even the tepals have the wonderful pattern ---- the pattern that we see in dowiana lips. But this one has more features ---- as in the tepals has the pattern too.

Had a velutina some 5yrs ago. To me, one spectacular species but fussy. Yours is so lovely. Enjoy.

A true beauty, and outstanding, indeed! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. The fragrance has gotten strong the last few days and changing from a citrus/vanilla/chocolate to more of a spicy citrus.
I was reading that both C. aclandiae and C. velutina like having its roots exposed and needs high humidity to do well. All three (including C. dowiana) needs warm temps and good aeration... which makes this hybrid a trio of fussiness... C. acalandiae does okay outdoors here, but I'll probably bring it indoors later in the winter. Hopefully this plant keeps up! |
