Got myself a dendrobium peguanum

It is not in the best shape but, with proper care, it will thrive.
This seems to need the same care a nobiles, except for the higher temps and humidity.
I would prefer to have it potted because my RH is very low, especially in summer. But as you see from the photo, it will be difficult to remove it without damaging the roots. By other hand, now it's the time of the year for the root growth.

What would you do? Would you try to remove it from the mount?

There it is! ( pic didn’t initially load)

Congratulations on the addition

Maybe drop the mount into a big plastic pot with loose leca at the bottom. Sort of what AKhenaten does

Thanks, DC
I thought about putting the lower part of the mount inside water so that the wood wicks it. But maybe that won't be enough...:hmm

Good news!
After putting the lower half of the mount inside a plastic container filled with sphagnum and water, together with two daily mistings, something green started to appear. It seems to be two new growths.

Lets see if I grow this one in low humidity.

Well done! I have also sometimes just dropped a mount into a pot. In fact, I have also done a similar thing when I had a mounted plant that was just climbing off the mount, in that case dropped the mount into a basket, maybe added some large bark and let the plant go wherever it wanted.

Another approach I have used with a plant that I couldn't keep hydrated enough on a mount in this case an Epi partinsonianum, which really can't be grown potted because of the way it grows pendantly ) I attached the mount to a larger piece of cork, and stuffed some sphagnum in between the two pieces of cork and around the edges. That turned out to be enough extra moisture-holding capacity to get the plant happy... it has finally started to grow and flower really well.

Update on this one...new growths are growing fast and some more are sprouting. One pbulb has 3 and the other, so far, has one but I suspect at least one more will grow soon.

Update on this one...from the 4 new growths only two survived. I suspect a cool air draft from a nearby open window while the plant was wet after watering rotted them.
Anyway, the most developed growth has some structures appearing which, considering it's life cycle and the season we're in, I suspect to be spikes forming.

The only downside I see here is that the pbulbs are pointing downwards due to light source of the window.

Here's some photos...

I do think that flowers are in your future!

rbarata 11-20-2021 11:07 AM

So far so good...
I've been giving it full sun and, remarkably, it can handle it like a champ.:)
The ferns help giving it some protection but, as soon as the flowers fade, I need to cut them (not easy, if not impossible, to remove them completely. They'll give protection again when growing again).
Misting heavily everyday by the hottest hour of the day.

How are the buds coming along? I'm so curious to see this one in bloom, it's going to look great with the moss and ferns!
