Not long ago, there was a thread about flowers that die nicely.

I commented that I found phrags to be particularly frustrating, as a seemingly pristine flower would simply drop off upon the opening of a subsequent flower.

This Phrag Lucky Girl was out to prove me wrong.

Fabulous!

Last year I bought my first phrag (QF Aloha) on ebay that came in spike. A few weeks later the first bloom opened and after it came 3 more. The first flower held on for few days before it fell, in pristine condition. Glad to have gotten a picture.

I've since then re-sold it on ebay 'cause I guess I realized I just don't enjoy phrags that much

Yup! Love 'em anyway.

Good looking flower too, Ray.

Fabulous looking spikes, both of you! Nice that the plant hung on to the oldest bloom, that is also my biggest complaint about my phrag. I see a new bud about to open, and the previous flower looks pristine... and then drops.

Well, that is the nature of most Phrags.

A few years ago Glen Decker brought a nice kovachii hybrid to the Mass OS show. 2 perfect flowers on set-up day; the following morning the older (but still perfect) flower was on the table.

On the other hand, I used to have a Phrag. Cardinale, which I bought from Glen. It held flowers very well; I once had 9 open flowers on a branched inflorescence. This photo is not quite in focus, but it does show 6 flowers open or opening.

Nice flamberge style sepals.

Dosen't phrag Humboldtii have mass flowerings?

stick the perfect dropped flower in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel (or in a bowl with a damp towel), they can last several more days in pristine condition
