Getting my phals and Oncidium to bloom
1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys! My oncidium and my phals have grown so well! My first phal just finished blooming GB and is already growing a new flower spike, new leaves and new roots. The rest Are rescues have plenty of plump roots and leaves but have Never bloomed for me. I am already fertilizing well every week, giving probiotic every 3 weeks and kelpmax every month. Their light levels seem to be good, bright and indirect. How can I encourage them to bloom? Should I just give it more time? I’ve attached a photo. The dark color behind the window is just because the California sky is covered with smoke right now.

They do look healthy! The hybrid Phals with very round pink through white flowers initiate spikes in mid to late winter. Let them get a little cooler in November-December to stimulate flowering.
Oncidiums tend to flower on new growths as they are maturing. For some plants this could be several times per year. Commonest causes of not flowering would be inadequate light or water. They prefer more light than Phals, and leaves should not develop horizontal pleating. |
