"totally NOT a terrarium" build by DirtyCoconuts (I built nothing)
:hello
as the thread alludes this is a sort of terrarium, sort of build, more of a 'loose enclosure assembly and accessorizing'. i got this Podangis (thanks a lot WW! and your peer pressure)( you like you i assume i am your peer ) and i felt like it would be too small to handle if i ever forget to water it for a day....i also bought two other minis with it because i wanted to get free shipping so i went on letgo and got this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...92830d1f_c.jpgMaking a wardian case of sorts by J Solo, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...620f1f44_c.jpgMaking a wardian case of sorts by J Solo, on Flickr i assume it is for candle or something dumb but i paid $20 and i was pleased about that. I sprayed some rustoleum clear coat on the bottom of the inside and the whole outside then i took a few SS nuts and brass washers and made these hangers on the inside using the old fashion "hand vices" i use aquarium silicon caulk and ended up with like 15 spots to hang plants and move them as needed https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...86901af5_c.jpgMaking a wardian case of sorts by J Solo, on Flickr two 5x7 plastic photo frames will add extra humidity thanks to LECA and heat https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3c4ae682_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr here is the assembled and test fit with plants https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bc2c72b0_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr it does not seal at any of the joints and there are two vents on the top so i am not worried about stagnation, it sits under a fan on the patio https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1df91665_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr money shot through the top https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ff843446_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr the four residents are : Hwra. lava burst 'puanani' -in spike https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e0a0628a_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr Coel. schelleriana - in spike https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3680af78_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr Den. lamyaiae https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2bc794ab_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr and, of course, Podangis dactyloceras- three spikes :biggrin::biggrin: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d33ec0bf_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bd0decda_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr thanks to Roberta for having such cool minis and always making me mad jealous and to WW for making this the most demanding plant i have ever purchased ---------- Post added at 06:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:18 PM ---------- as a bonus for anyone who is still reading this drivel.....Pete, trying so hard to convince me he deserves a scratch.....he got one https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c2f807fa_c.jpgTERRORarium by J Solo, on Flickr |
Neat setup! And Pete got an "Awwwww"
Might be a good idea to put a cheap thermometer in there so you'll know if heat buildup is a problem or not. If it turns out to be an issue, a little solar fan would take care of it. |
Super good idea, Roberta!

They shipped your plants in that crate?
|
Yeah, usps is really upping their “fragile” game
|
Awesome! Love Wardian cases. 😊
|
Put less water in those LECA trays. About half is fine. The LECA will wick the water and provide more evaporative surface area.
|
Thanks Ray. I was not sure about the best volume of water but that makes more sense.
|
You are quite welcome, Peer DC.
That is one cool piece...I'm super jealous. Now I need to go scramble around in the garage looking for "something" for mine. I feel kinda awkward here... mine's still hanging off a wine bottle in the kitchen... as I stare and it and will it to live. Still in shock here. :blushing: ---------- Post added at 08:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 AM ---------- PS Hi Pete! {{scritch scritch scritch, pat pat pat}}} |
Nice wardian case! Any plans to try to control mold growth, especially in the LECA layer?
