I got this one for $20 when Seattleorchid moved locations. It is a cross between a 4N nodosa and the clone 'Mas Mejor'. First blooming and smells like expensive soap like others have said.

It had 3 spikes but I broke one... sigh...

Bummer but....2 spikes is still bad ass!!

Do we know for sure that 'Mas Mejor' is 2N?

Somehow, in the back of my mind, I thought is was 4N, but I could be totally wrong about that.

Good point. Everywhere I see Mas Mejor listed, it says 2N but none are from a reliable website; just ppl selling.

The plant is certainly already huge compared to other nodosas ive seen and it's a first blooming. A long rhizome and the leaves are so thick, the pseudobulbs bend over if I dont stake them. It doesnt seem to be an ideal cross but it's so vigorous and fragrant, I still love it!

The only downside to a 3N is if one wants to breed further with it.(Usually 3Ns are sterile though there are exceptions) Clearly this plant has benefited from some extra chromosomes. Enjoy it! As far as pseudobulbs bending over, that is what B. nodosa naturally does.

Agreed. But I have no plans to do my own breeding in the near future. Always open to sending whatever to whomever interested; just ask for pics in return.

I'll include pics of the rambly rhizome and leviathon leaves once the other buds open.
