Paph. Salvadore Dali

1 Attachment(s)
A confusing cross of Paph. liemianum x victoria-regina. The second flower has been open about five days. It generally drops the first flower shortly after the second one opens. The plant is huge with a leaf span of around 24".

But it's not drooping or dripping... nor look like a clock. Why the Salvador Dali name? What am I missing? ;)

I didn't name it. That's the name of the cross when I purchased it. I think someone on this board has taken credit for making this cross, but I don't remember who it was.

I grew paph. liemianum once a upon a time, one of my fav paphs... could have sworn the parents are the same species? or a variety of one or the other?

anyway, i clicked in part because of the name!

The answer to that question is somewhat fluid, and depends upon whether you are a 'lumper' or a 'splitter'.

I saw it immedietly, being a Dali fan. It is his upturned mustache! The curly one. Usually the petals droop on a paph, but this one is slightly upturned.

I also like the various "zones" of pattern. Very interesting!

Wouldn't you expect that it would have a cultivar name of Salvadore Dali rather than the hybrid name. It's hard to believe that all the seedlings that resulted from this cross had upturned, twisted petals (although maybe they did).

Errr. You got me there. Yeah, I just saw another and it had a drooping mustashe. It should have been called Picasso, because Salvidor Dali could draw in a classical manner, and Picasso was all about weird lines and spots.

Yazz and Optimist,

Thank you! Yes, that makes total sense now that you've said it.
