My Cambria is about to bloom

That's right... when I bought it I thought I probably couldn't provide the right conditions to it...Now I've found this:

The whole plant

I don't how the flowers are since I bought it after the blooming season.

Good job

jason45244 09-14-2015 08:49 PM

excellent!

My Green Pets 09-15-2015 12:18 AM

Congratulations! Can't wait to see the flowers.

Update on this cambria:

The spike in the first pics turned into this long spike. It's getting bigger and bigger and probably I will have lots of flowers.
The looking at the pic one doesn't see the real size of it but it is more than 55 cm (22 in).
http://i1343.photobucket.com/albums/...pslyatmqag.jpg

In the meanwhile, a week ago I noticed a new one comming out and, yesterday, noticed another one (the smallest in the pic).
http://i1343.photobucket.com/albums/...pslg6zugpu.jpg

With these spikes, I think I will have flowers blooming during a big part of the winter. I always thought there would be a spike per plant. Is it true? Does this means I have more than one in this pot?

WhiteRabbit 11-07-2015 07:45 PM

Nice!

silken 11-07-2015 08:27 PM

Great growing. Quite often it is 1 or 2 spikes on each new growth. So it is likely 1 plant but it has multiple newly matured growths. Can't wait to see what you got!

No-Pro-mwa 11-08-2015 10:19 AM

Great growing.

RosieC 11-09-2015 06:12 AM

:cheer:

Update: It's taking soooo long for the flowers to bloom. It's been growing since 2 and a half months.
How long do you think it will take? Now I'm even more eager to see the flowers, since they got this strange color, maybe not seen in the pics, but it's something like wine with a purple tone.

They are slow. I am waiting for ever for several Oncidiums as well. Looks like yours will have some burgunday and some spots-nice!

rbarata 12-01-2015 02:07 PM

Now that I'm talking about it, it has begun:

Congratulations, you are an orchid grower! :)

rbarata 12-01-2015 06:38 PM

Thank you! I do my best!:)

rbarata 12-03-2015 02:04 PM

The first one has opened. Finaly I know how the flower is, a strange but beautiful flower.
Hard to photograph, different light settings, different places.

This looks like this one. Do you think it's the same?

DeaC 12-03-2015 03:19 PM

I think you're correct with the ID. Such a lovely color especially this time of year! Good for you and Merry Christmas!

rbarata 12-03-2015 03:58 PM

Thank you, DeaC. Merry Christmas to you too!:D

My Green Pets 12-03-2015 04:55 PM

It's a beauty. Congratulations!

rbarata 12-03-2015 05:08 PM

Thank you. TThat best part was finally seeing how the flower look like, because I bought it with flowers.
Next surprise is to see all the blooms opening, there's lots of them, in 3 different spikes.:D

estación seca 12-03-2015 10:22 PM

WOW!!! that's amazingly beautiful, and you have grown it well..

The pot you originally showed had the bar code. Bar codes have a lot of information about the supplier and the retail outlet. Maybe you can use that information to find out the supplier, contact them and ask whether they can identify the plant. Or maybe the retail outlet can tell you where they buy their plants, and give you contact information for the company.

RosieC 12-04-2015 03:38 AM

Really beautiful!

Luizacft 12-04-2015 12:34 PM

Oh, I love cambrias!

Yes, that's a good idea. I don't know if they have that info since I bought it almost one year ago. I'll try...

One more detail and one question...this flower has what seems to be covered in floss (I think this is the correct word for it). In day light it's clearly visible and with certain kinds of altificial light seems to be iridescent (this effect is visible in one of the pictures).

Now the question...the "Darth Vader" variety I mentioned, does anybody knows if it's fragrant?
Mine is not, at least so far.

rbarata 12-21-2015 01:14 PM

Update: most of the blooms (but not all) are open. Two are left in the main spike, and two more in a third spike which, I think, cannot be seen in the picture.
Also a detail of some funny roots, growing away from the light source.

Wow! What a lovely, rich color!

rbarata 12-21-2015 02:09 PM

In fact they are darker than what is seen in the pic. The flowers seem to be covered by microscopic iridescent hair which create "special effects" with the light.:D Unfortunately my phone cam doesn't take macros.

My Green Pets 12-21-2015 09:14 PM

Congratulations on a beautiful display! Also, those roots look very happy!

wintergirl 12-21-2015 11:30 PM

Great blooms! Good growing, I like your kitchen too :)

RosieC 12-22-2015 07:34 AM

Gorgeous!

rbarata 12-22-2015 02:22 PM

Thank you all, this plant was a complete surprise.
