Hello from west tx
Hi all! I'm new to the hobby. I have loved orchids for a very long time and finally gathered the courage to try them out. I have three phals I saved from Wal-Mart. I'm trying to identify them now. I have new growth on the two smaller ones. I'll try to upload pics soon.

They're generic NOID hybrids. You won't ever have a positive ID because there are so many Phal hybrids and many can look nearly identical to another.
Good luck saving them! It's a great way to get started in the hobby, IMO. You learn a lot from rescuing plants that are not in perfect condition! |
That's what I was afraid of. They're really beautiful and I'm glad they're looking so much better.

What's to be afraid of? Some of my favorites are NOIDs. :) every now and then, you can get lucky and find labelled and named orchids at a big box store like that, but who cares? The important thing is that they make you happy. :)

:welcome: Most people start out with Phals first, then as they get more comfortable, tend to branch out and acquire other types. good luck.

Thanks

Hello and welcome!
I have mostly species orchids and then a few favorite hybrids but I still have a few of those nameless box-store orchids. Some of them are just too nice to not have in one's collection! :) |
NOID simply means there is no established heritage. It has nothing to do with neither the beauty of the plant nor of the blooms. Welcome to the boards. I believe the magic number of posts is 5 to be able to post pictures. And we sure love our pictures here. :D

I agree, don't worry about your orchids being NoID, I have many Phals like that, in fact most of my Phals, I only really have named ones in the other Genera. They are just as pretty and as long as you know enough about what they are to find care info that's all that matters  |
