Neofinetia falcata Daiseikai 大聖海

This Neofinetia falcata Daiseikai 大聖海 was purchased on 01/14/14. Here is how it looked from Seed Engei.

It is a very healthy plant. As January rolled into February, it basically sat there taking up space. But as March rolled in, the roots started displaying color and elongating. Mid-March, I started breaking the minimal water rule and drenching the plants in water. I was examining my plants and came across this Daiseikai 大聖海, it had two bloom spikes.

MattWoelfsen 04-07-2014 04:15 AM

Thank you Sonya. I hope I don't blast these buds with undue attention!

s.kallima 04-07-2014 11:28 AM

It is a nice plant!
Don't given it TOO much attention so it will bloom better ;)

I know...is it possible to be superstitious when growing Neofinetia? That is probably par for the course of collecting Neos!:)

Red Orchid 04-07-2014 07:13 PM

Wow great growing it is very happy with you. Keep the pic of it's progress coming. :)

Real nice, but I think you twisted the name in the photos in the latest post.

Daiseikai is what it was in thread title.

FWIW, you do also possess an actual Daiseiryu leading off your "Contorted and Twisted Neofinetia falcata" thread:

:D

UPDATE: Matt has corrected the post.

Good eye Jayfar! I sure did mess that up. I have all my information on a spread sheet. So I copied the wrong line!

Easy mistake, since both Daiseikai and Daiseiryu start with kanji 大 (which I understand means large or big).

I just love the falcata flowers! Congratulations!

Seven days later: six flowers have opened, three left to bloom. I hope these blooms last through this weekend. I want to show them off at my society meeting. Our program is for our members to show off their plants.

So I'm rehearsing my presentation to you. These flowers are excessively fragrant. They smell like vanilla sachet. The flowers are very white and sparkling.

Thanks Ginger and annabanana1987. I really cannot take credit for this plant. I bought it in mid-January. But I sure babied this one--it has fascinated me because of its strong leaves and subtle stripping. It reminds me of my Higashidemiyako--which is in the pot you made Ginger.

It should last until the meeting. My neo's blooms usually last almost a month (mine usually opens up the day after the meeting and is finished the day before the next). It looks beautiful and your orchid society is bound to enjoy it!
