Here's a cute little bloom that I photographed with 3 different backgrounds, pick the one you like. It's good for people just starting to take orchid pics to get some ideas. ENJOY..... Jim.

One of my favorite Paphs! :cloud9: The black background really works the best for it I think, with so much white is doesn't really stand out on a paler background.

I agree with Camille with the black background...lovely bloom!

I like the natural settings as backgrounds myself...the photo paper is good for close up viewing of details, for purely aesthetic properties the natural backgrounds are more pleasing to me personally :)

Gorgeous. I really love this Paph. I think it's one of the project suggestions this time and is one I will definately be voting for and if it doesn't win it'll be top of my wish list.

I love both the first and third pics here. The white does not have enough contrast really but both the black and natural backgrounds are gorgeous!

I like the natural background too, but I think I would use it more with orchids that have brighter colors.

agreed! the back is a bit distracting, but then agan you wee the background first,and it leads your eyes to the pouch

The more I look at the picture, the more I like the third more, it's very interesting, and after your done looking at the cutie, you can't help looking at the beautiful background.

The 3rd is too busy even though you have done a great job with depth of field, as I would expect from you. I use black for everything I shoot but I have often wondered if a background that might enhance some of the other colors in the flower might work well as an alternative.... like using a complementary. In this case complementing the lavender bucket with a yellow~green background... just some thoughts.

My favorite Paph species. Reminds me of Minnie Mouse.

Thanks for all the nice comments, #3 is the background that I use for my MMB post sometines at a different angle, a lot of times I'll add a border color of a part of the bloom and your eye goes right to it, it's easy and a lot of fun. I like black because if I put a pic on my desktop background , it's easier to see icons on it, but as a composition I like the natural background, and especially with the toning border. One day I'll learn to use a photo processing program properly - at the moment I can just about resize images for the uploading!

Jim's camera may have a macroshot feature to it that allows you to zoom in and focus on the subject that is being photographed. I'm not a photography expert but I believe this is intentional. As you say, you see the background then your eye focuses on the pouch...
