Here's a cute little bloom that I photographed with 3 different backgrounds, pick the one you like. It's good for people just starting to take orchid pics to get some ideas. ENJOY..... Jim.

One of my favorite Paphs! :cloud9: The black background really works the best for it I think, with so much white is doesn't really stand out on a paler background.

I agree with Camille with the black background...lovely bloom!

I agree about the first, but the third is nice too. It pops.

MuscleGirl'sHobby 08-06-2010 01:19 AM

Very pretty! I like the 3rd background :)

RJSquirrel 08-06-2010 06:06 AM

I like the natural settings as backgrounds myself...the photo paper is good for close up viewing of details, for purely aesthetic properties the natural backgrounds are more pleasing to me personally :)

Gorgeous. I really love this Paph. I think it's one of the project suggestions this time and is one I will definately be voting for and if it doesn't win it'll be top of my wish list.

I love both the first and third pics here. The white does not have enough contrast really but both the black and natural backgrounds are gorgeous!

Call_Me_Bob 08-06-2010 10:57 AM

i dont really like the white. let me ask you, is the third background real? it looks kind of fake! lol

but the 1st and 3rd are my faves

camille1585 08-06-2010 11:01 AM

I like the natural background too, but I think I would use it more with orchids that have brighter colors.

Call_Me_Bob 08-06-2010 11:04 AM

agreed! the back is a bit distracting, but then agan you wee the background first, and it leads your eyes to the pouch

marydaniellesantos 08-06-2010 11:14 AM

The more I look at the picture, the more I like the third more, it's very interesting, and after your done looking at the cutie, you can't help looking at the beautiful background.

BikerDoc5968 08-06-2010 11:35 AM

The 3rd is too busy even though you have done a great job with depth of field, as I would expect from you. I use black for everything I shoot but I have often wondered if a background that might enhance some of the other colors in the flower might work well as an alternative.... like using a complementary. In this case complementing the lavender bucket with a yellow~green background... just some thoughts.

:agree: Took the words right out of my mouth.

My favorite Paph species. Reminds me of Minnie Mouse.

Thanks for all the nice comments, #3 is the background that I use for my MMB post sometines at a different angle, a lot of times I'll add a border color of a part of the bloom and your eye goes right to it, it's easy and a lot of fun. Here's a pic of the background I use, and a pic of #3 with a border. ENJOY.... Jim.

I think your pond is great and the delanatii is fantastic. :bowing

I like black because if I put a pic on my desktop background , it's easier to see icons on it, but as a composition I like the natural background, and especially with the toning border. One day I'll learn to use a photo processing program properly - at the moment I can just about resize images for the uploading!

SpeciesNut 08-21-2010 10:41 PM

im fond of the black background, but thats bc that is what I use :) Love the flower!

Jennyfleur 08-28-2010 10:49 AM

I like the natural background best I think ~ I have to say, this one has been on my 'wish list' since I started discovering orchids x

beautiful paphs on black background:)

EDDIE 09-18-2010 09:42 AM

Bob,

Jim's camera may have a macroshot feature to it that allows you to zoom in and focus on the subject that is being photographed. I'm not a photography expert but I believe this is intentional. As you say, you see the background then your eye focuses on the pouch...
